Vonn to race slalom with finger brace

Double Olympic medallist Lindsey Vonn of the United States will take part in the final women's alpine race, the slalom, on Friday despite a broken finger, team officials said.

Vonn, who has won downhill gold and super-G bronze here, broke her right pinkie when she crashed out of the giant slalom while leading the first leg on Wednesday.

The slalom is considered Vonn's weakest event, but the 25-year-old ski star is going all out to try and grab her third medal of the Games.

Team officials said Vonn will race with a brace protecting her finger.

"She's definitely still in pain, but that's nothing she's not used to," team spokesman Doug Haney told AFP.

"She's going to go out and do her best in her fifth and final event of these Olympic Games."

Vonn's teammate Julia Mancuso did not qualify for the US women's slalom team.
